Welcome to Dryg-Gwra

This is the site for the fantasy RPG world of Dryg-Gwra. Here you will find all the information needed to play in this epic world of might, mystery, and magic. I am in the process of converting the world from AD&D 2nd Edition to:

pflogo

You will find maps, information on classes, races, religions, and much much more. Select from the tabs at the top of the page to see more.

This site is constantly being updated as I add additional material and work through the conversion process, so please check back regularly.

Just what is this Dryg-Gwra I keep hearing about?

Well, we need a little history lesson first. I have been an ADD gamer/DM since 1984. Until 1988, I had run my campaigns within the framework built around the Forgotten Realms world of TSR. At some point, I realized there was just too much information available to anyone about the Realms. It became obvious that there was no mystery about campaigning. They pretty much knew who this person was, what their stats and magic items were, what their alignment was. There was just no way to keep that information secret. There were too many novels as well as packets released.

Well I decided to change that. One weekend during my college years, I returned home to stay with my folks and had very little to do. I sat down at my father’s computer and started typing. I started typing about cultures and races, renaming them as I went along. I was putting down a pantheon and culture of sorcery. The next thing I knew…I had a binder called The World of Dryg-Gwra, complete with a map, backgrounds, a timeline, NPCs’, and an introductory typed adventure that was in perfect Module format.

I returned to college Sunday afternoon and called the group together early. I ominously placed the binder upon the table, and told them it was time to roll new characters. They looked at me kind of strangely, pointing to the binder, and asked what it was. Quoting a line from the movie Willow I said,”Forget all you know or think you know about gaming ina fantasy setting. Welcome to Dryg-Gwra.”

We gamed there since then, and I believe it is my group’s favorite place to play. That was until we all finally went our separate ways as age and life took us in different directions. We did have other DM’s in the group, but none had a unique world, and all who have played in it loved it. The world has definitely evolved since then. (For one the world was originally called Derugar, which later became theĀ  island nation of Derugar. I also had changed many spellings to reflect a Celtic cultural similarity, especially on the island of Derugar.

I will be the first to admit that there are many sources I borrowed from. Who hasn’t? The biggest is probably magic. The idea of three distinct orders for magic based upon morality is obviously from the Dragonlance series, as well as the testing of each “Seeker” for acceptance into the order.

There is much more to this, too much more than I could go into here. I just wanted you to understand the why’s and wherefores of this strange land. I don’t know if anyone would want to use it as a game setting outside of my group, but it is my hope that there are some DM’s or potential DM’s that will get sparked and break out of the rut and routine. Now let me say that the FR stuff is amazing, and I would never have created Dryg-Gwra without it. But for me it was time for a change…I needed a place I could call home.

So welcome to my home. Welcome to Dryg-Gwra
